ST. PETERSBURG, July 20. /TASS/. The Project 949A Antey-class nuclear-powered submarine Oryol took part for the first time in the rehearsal of the Kronshtadt part of Russia’s Main Naval Parade this year, the press office of the Western Military District told TASS on Friday.

"The missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov and the nuclear-powered underwater cruiser Oryol took part for the first time in the rehearsal of the parade in Kronshtadt," the press office said.

During the rehearsal, the Oryol and the Marshal Ustinov were anchored in a parade formation in the Kronshtadt roadstead.

Earlier on Friday, the rehearsal of the Petersburg part of the naval parade took place. The corvette Soobrazitelny and the frigate Admiral Makarov participated in it for the first time.

A group of the Northern Fleet’s warships comprising the missile-carrying cruiser Marshal Ustinov, the nuclear-powered submarine Oryol, the large anti-submarine warfare ship Severomorsk and the frigate Admiral Gorshkov arrived in the Gulf of Finland on July 15.

The Oryol sub will become the naval parade’s largest participant with its surface displacement of almost 15,000 tonnes and its full displacement of 24,000 tonnes. The sub carries 24 Granit cruise missiles. The Oryol entered service with the Northern Fleet in 1993.

The Main Naval Parade timed to coincide with Russia’s Navy Day will be held in St. Petersburg and Kronshtadt on July 29. It will involve about 40 warships and around 40 aircraft and helicopters.
